Visual Het Palmetto

Hey all you colubrid people out there!

Question for you:

The Palmetto morph is supposed to be incomplete dominant (producing a visual het) ......what exactly am I looking for on a visual het animal? ....because Im not seeing it for the available 100% het palmettos that are available,

I swear that it was thought to be recessive and then upgraded to an incomplete dom after people were seeing visual hets, I just didnt know what they were visually. I remeber seeing an article about a breeder who would not declare them as recessive due to these visual hets showing up when a het animal was bred to a normal.


Ive just hever had someone explain ehat was supposedly visible.

I bought Solana from him. I don’t believe he produces Palmettos anymore, but don’t remember the reason.

You can always email and ask him. He’s a super nice guy and is very helpful and to say he’s knowledgeable, would be an understatement.

I don't work with palmettos, but if there is a visual marker for a het palmetto then I've never noticed it. Most of the het I've seen just look normal, or like whatever other morph/s they may have. I did find an article that says otherwise though.

Google is giving me mixed messages. iansvivarium and cornsnake.net are saying it's an inc-dom while cornguide.com and morph market list it as recessive. Sounds like someone needs to get their act together.

The het palmettos that I have seen where it is visual they typically look like a normal but have kind of a hypo appearance. They will look a normal but almost like they are starting to go into blue. Basically not as glossy and bright as a normal.
