    Elvaston castle

It was a nice dry today so I took my grandkids Harriet 4 and Nancy 2 ,
Elvaston castle is 5miles from there house and is such a great place to walk round, it’s a gothic revival style started in 1815 and finished in 1836 by the earl of Harrington, the country park is 321 acres and free to walk round just pay for parking. Here’s a few pics
that was part of the old Japanese garden that’s disappeared now,a bit creepy
the lakes gone green in places from being so hot there’s a cafe in the courtyard that helps pay for repairs

Thank you for sharing those fantastic photos...cute kids, beautiful scenery AND a castle!?

And I don't find the remnants of ye olde Japanese garden to be one bit "creepy"?

    Re: Elvaston castle

    Thanks c.marie and bogertophis
The castle is always a great walk, there was some grass snakes spotted there a few months ago , never had luck finding any myself,it needs loads of money to renovate it, they have a lot of volunteers that are helping renovate the old wall kitchen garden etc .
It’s great when there’s snow on the ground too, been going for over 40 years I’ve took my kids and now my grandkids love it too
I would of loved to see it in its prime, the old church yards cool, has a few crypts
The Japanese bit looks so creepy when it’s foggy all the old trees are so cool in the grounds, there’s a green man festival on there next month which is so wicked
