    Clutch #2

So I have a new setup now and it's been working great. I converted a wine cooler into a smalle incubator. No thermostat issues this time! All six eggs made it through incubation and the first one pipped this morning.

More to come as they emerge from the eggs!

A pretty little enchi slithered out last night and I got a picture this morning.

And now the others are starting to pip!

Whew, I had a busy weekend. They're all out now! But it took awhile. The poor little enchi had to wait all by herself for two days while the others stuck their heads out.

Had to show this pic because I love the headstamp on the one on he bottom right. Isn't it gorgeous?

Then on day two she was finally joined by a friend. The pied kept sticking his neck out and then going back in. I sure was glad to see him though.

Then, on the morning of the 12th, the rest all came out at once! Finally.

After that I rinsed them off, weighed them, sexed them, and set them up in individual tubs. They were all between 76-82 grams.

I've gotta admit, I'm kinda bummed that I only got one pied. The male was a visual! But what the odds gods denied me in the pied gene they made up for in combos and sex ratios. The pied is the only male in the clutch. All the others are female and half of the clutch are two gene animals. So far I think I have: 1 normal het pied, 1 pied, 1 enchi het pied, and 3 pastel enchi het pieds. Waiting until after the first shed to be certain though.

Kind of odd that I didn't get any single gene pastels. The pastel enchis are really pretty though. The one with the super clean headstamp is definitely a keeper.

I just saw this thumbnail pic and wondered why you were showing pics of hatchling ducks

Congratulations and thanks for sharing. They are very nice looking and the pied is definitely sweet. And everyone love Enchi, lol.

My guess is the one pied you did get looks like an Enchi Pied. Nice clutch.

I've never hatched a duck, so I have no idea what that would look like. Aren't duck eggs more... brittle? Like chicken eggs?

Thanks! He's a really pretty little guy. I'm going to be sad when he sells. Probably won't take long. I've had several locals tell me that they're looking for pieds.

You think so? I'm pretty sure he's just a single gene pied, but I guess I can see why you'd think that. The pics I've posted so far are mainly from the top and you can't see the sides very well. I don't think there's enough banding for him to be enchi, but I'll post better pics. I've taken some individual ones since then.

    Here's the enchi:

Really pretty girl. I could tell what she was right away. She's much darker/more orange than the pastel enchis. Speaking of which...

This was the second girl out. I almost took her for an enchi at first, since it was dark and I didn't get a good look at her. This pic captures her yellows nicely.

I had a hard time getting this guy to hold still, so he ended up slithering over the bed instead of the bowl I was using to take pics of the others.

The normal girl has kind of a wonky pattern, but I like it. I have an adult het pied normal with similar rings down the spine.

This is my keeper girl. She's so clean and pretty.

And I couldn't get the last one to un-ball. So I had to take pics as is.

She's also very pretty though. I kept going back and forth between her and the other one when I was deciding which girl to keep. It was a tough decision.

Overall I'm really pleased. I got to prove my pastel het pied female out and she gave me some lovely hatchlings.

No worries .. my point about the 'thumbnail' .... tiny photo ?

Is that on first glance they looked like little ducks .. with the shells being the 'duck bodies'
