    Salt and Pepper

    This pair of mussurana, Boiruna maculata, arrived today as part of a trade deal. I've had my female pied for a couple years now and never got around to picking up a male so I jumped on the offer. As much as I like the pieds and super pieds, I can't deny the absolute beauty of the normal.

    2017 super pied female(in shed):

    2016 normal male:

    Wow, we sure don't see these every day....I'm not normally a big fan of "pied" but that last pic, that female is & I really like the normal male too.

    They're kind of like the kings of central and south america. These specialize in feeding on other snakes(ophiophagy) in the wild and are even immune/resistant to the venom of their native vipers - these are bothrops destroyers - but are vulnerable to the venom of the corals as well as that of their own kind. Mussurana is the common name for snakes in the genus Clelia, which these used to be in until they got changed to Boiruna maculata. They're still called mussurana and sometimes false mussurana.
