    Axanthic IJ/Papuan carpet python

About a month ago in another thread I hinted around to an upcoming purchase. At the time I had only sent an inquiry email and was waiting for a response. Since that time, I was placed on the wait list, and a few emails back and forth each week for the past few weeks discussing the animal and the deal. He is now paid for and waiting for one more meal before being shipped.

This little guy is coming from Eric Burke of EBMorelia. The pairing was a het axanthic X het axanthic. 10 eggs were laid on 02/25/18. They hatched on 04/20/18. Of the 10, 3.1 were axanthic. Eric is keeping back the female. Nick mutton of inland reptiles got first pick of the boys and I got my choice of the remaining two. Eric might also hold back the last male.

There has been some recent debate about the axanthic gene and whether it is incomplete-dom or recessive and how to label the animals. Likewise there has also been debate about them being called IJ’s or Papuan carpet pythons. Either way he is the homogeneous version of the gene.

He is currently un-named but will probably get one after he arrives. I’m leaning towards the possibility of Apep.

Here are a few pics copied from EB morelia’s facebook page.

This last pic is the one I passed on.

that's a really cool animal. congrats!

i see Eric on the forum sometimes and it's nice to know who Nick Mutton himself may go to for Morelia's. that's good company to be in.

Edit: also really interesting to see how the debate between incomplete dom vs recessive plays out.

    Thanks all!

I was at carpetfest the beginning of june and supposedly Nick Mutton was there but I didn't get a chance to meet or chat with him. I did get to talk to Eric and Owen some. While Eric was showing me his snake room I got to see this little guy. He is a feisty little thing, which made me want him even more.

Not much new to add. He was supposed to arrive this week but the weather was a little too warm. The waiting game continues, but I don't mind since it's what is best for the little guy.

I hate the waiting game too but it'll be well worth it.
