    Eastern Coral

The second eastern coral snake I've encountered in less than a year. I don't see them often so it's always a treat. Lovely little elapids.

Coral snakes have a very small mouth...you'd have to really "work at it" to get bit, IMO. I'd be right there admiring it too. Beautiful snakes.

The saying as I've heard it is: red touching black is a friend to Jack, red touching yellow can kill a fellow...
(unless it's an exception like my harmless tricolor Texas longnose snake, lol)

Beautiful. I was fortunate to see one once at Wakiva Springs Park near Apopka a few years back. They are really pretty in person.

Thanks for sharing, the other day I was out trying to get in some exercise. And I seen a female red eared slider. Wish I would of seen a snake but I’ll take it. Let me see if I can clean up the picture to share.

You have to really tick one of these snakes off to get it to bite you. They're simply not defensive strikers so unless you're harassing the bejesus out of one, you've got few worries. I've relocated a couple and it's usually a toss up as to whether they're chill or spastic - doesn't seem to be much middle ground. The one above seemed pretty ok with me getting in its face for a few pictures but you can see it starting to flatten out in the last shot. My friendly little reminder of "fire, hot", so we ended the session as I wouldn't want to unduly stress the animal.

    Re: Eastern Coral

I love Coral snakes. I kept 2 males for years, one of them had 8.5 years, the last one died August 3, had him 11 years 9 months. Was lucky, they accepted several types of prey, last one would eat 6 to 10 F/T pinky mice at a time...Beautiful snakes..
