Magma - blood python progression thread.

ABSOLUTELY the final member of my snake crew. So I have a permanent crew of eight now. No more.

The final snake was supposed to be Jack, but his thin colubrid ways did not satisfy me the way that pythons and boas do, especially while he's still growing. So back to pythons and boas I go. I considered a white lipped again for quite awhile, but ultimately still wanted a snake that is easy to handle for my guests/friends, docile, and has some sort of impressive heavy and girthy feel. I was debating between a BCI or a short tail python, and decided in the end on a docile blood... fewer people have bloods! LOL

He arrived sitting in a giant wet bag puddle of his own waste... So his scales were discolored brown and dried up like that, especially visible now on his whites and yellows. I'll either give him a bath or just let him shed it off on his own.

This boy is a USCBB T-positive albino, and will likely become increasingly red and dark as he grows up. He's taken his meal a few days ago without issue, though I had to leave his food in his tub and cover it! He didn't want to strike.

He's very calm and docile so far, like his breeder said. Just sniffing the air and sitting on my hand, hardly even moved. His temperament is comparable to ball pythons, but even less active when out. Almost all the photos came out clear, because he moves so slowly! Just like I asked for.

He's just a wee babe for now. I can't wait to see him develop and grow!

    Beautiful baby!

I think you’ll enjoy having your blood. I enjoy mine better than the balls when I want to handle a snake without having to constantly chase them, to keep them from getting into unreachable places. My balls are constantly looking for a new hidy hole, where as the short tails are content to sit on my lap as long as they have their butts hidden.

Fantastic choice for your "last" snake. I really think you'll enjoy a short tail. I am a million percent happy with my Borneo. They are definitely slow moving and easy to get good pictures of!! Juice will literally just sit in my lap and chill, barely exploring. He'll look around a bit, get comfy and put his head down and stay put for a while. Then move around a bit, get comfy and chill. Definitely no worries about him going too far!!!
So far, another short tail (either a blood or a blackhead sumatran) is the only snake I'm consider adding a second of.

    Anyway, awesome choice, he's gorgeous!!

I agree! It reminds me of my dumeril's boa, which sounds similar. They don't move much, and just kind of get in a comfy position and stay there. It's different and makes me happy haha

Your "last" in quotes LOL! I swear this one is my last snake this time, unless I make the lame choice to sell any of my other snakes in the future. Which I really can't, because I like them all!

That's great, I really like that haha- it makes for an easier handling time and you don't have to feel like you're constantly moving and redirecting them.

Hahaha, you picked up on that, huh?

I have my "cap number" in mind, as far as how many snakes I can realistically care for. So I obviously get where you're coming from.
I think you're really going to enjoy your new blood, and honestly think it was a great choice to round out your serpentine family.
