Will this work for a ball python rack?

I just want a four bp setup and I plan on using heat tape in parallel.. Will this be okay with the heat tape? I know it will hold 41qt bins with their lids.

It could. I used to use a solid-shelved one from there because of heat efficiency. I use a thermostat with heat pads with tubs directly on top and it worked beautifully until I upgraded.

I don't use tubs, so I could be off with this, but it seems to me you'll lose a lot of heat because it's so wide open.

But, that's just a shot in the dark. More experienced tub users will chime in, I'm sure.

I use similar setup except I use the larger HDX that is 24" deep I believe. I cut down the legs to get a tighter fit to the top of my tubs. You can put your Heat Tape right on the shelves. I used Aluminum tape from Home Depot to tape it down. You don't have to worry about melting the rack. As long as you maintain ambient temps in your snake room you shouldn't have any issues. My animals are all doing well with this setup.

I've seen people do similar before...I think they changed the spacing, lined the underside of each shelf with a hard non-porous thin material (hard board, etc.) and used heat tape on it.

You would need this to be in a heated room because of the open sides, it would be difficult to get the right ambient temps if the room wasn't heated.

I use those shelves for my sub-adult rack. I changed the height of the shelves to accomodate the height of my 16qt tubs. I have 2 of these shelving units holding 16 of these tubs. I am also considering making plastic dividers for the 16 tubs to split them lengthwise while keeping the depth to the heat tape at the back for future babies since I cant afford the exact hatchling rack that I want yet.

As others have already said, you would definitely have to keep this in a room that is no less than 75 degrees year round (78 degrees would be even more preferable) in order to maintain the proper ambient temperature. Even with melamine racks that are closed in on 3 sides it is necessary...
