Because if it ate something outside, the prey might be carrying parasites which the snake would get. Mites arent native to the US so you would be safe there and ticks, you can give a good look over for those but stuff like nemotodes, you wouldnt be able to see. I would at least get a fecal done on it. Call or stop by your vet and see if they can do a fecal float if you brought a poop in. My vet hands out these little green snap top containers which you just drop a poop in and bring in.
