Re: Probe for Animal Plastics T10

Hmm I wonder what would be better.. making a hole in the back or the side? Since I’m getting the shelf.

Either should work but it will probably be less obtrusive with the wire coming out the back vs the side.

Good point. Do so if I have it hanging in the back wouldn’t it almost be touching the basking shelf? Or it doesn’t need to be that low?

Well you would using the shelf as the floor so you would want the probe hanging down high enough that the snake couldnt sit on it from the shelf. Regardless, you are going to need to set a baseline and then fine tune it with a temp gun. Might have to run the t-stat a little higher to get a warmer hot side or a little cooler to get a cooler cool side.

Just remember, boas dont need it really hot and from what i have seen with all my boas, they personally dont like it hot. I keep all the cages at a temp of 77-80F and just offer an 86-88F hot spot with the flexwatt. They bounce back and forth between the cool side or pretty much anywhere in the cage as its all the same temp, and the hot spot right on the flexwatt.

I've got mine below the shelf...in the second pic is the probe in the T10 I have divided in half right now and RHP is towards the middle.

Wouldnt need to be that low. It might be a little warmer being its up high in the cage but you can just adjust the temp with the t-stat. And if anything, it would just be a couple degrees.

Do you think it would be better if it was above the shelf or below?

If it was me, i would put it above the shelf. I mean if for some weird reason, it didnt work out, you can easily dremel a little notch on the back of the shelf and hang it lower and use the notch in the shelf to hold the probe in place under it. But really it just boils down to personal preference. The readings should be the same for the most part.

Okay I’ll have to decide which one I want to do thanks!
