Guess, even with buying all my food from Pet shops, i'm not that bad off lol. I spend about $150 a month for 9 snakes and a beardie. So if you average that, its about $37 a week. If/when i actually do get a small chest freezer, can pretty much half that.

But then comes all the bottled water and substrate i go through which adds up too lol.

Lmao you really need a chest freezer more than most of us! It would pay for itself in a month or two and then cut your feeder costs at least in half for the rest of its functioning life.

Lol tell me about it but like i said, i always end up spending it on other things. I thought i was finally caught up....then i just ordered Pat his AP A10 cage. Now i need to call Bob and order a RHP. Then a guy on the GTP forums gave me a place that sells Manzanita reptile perches so i need to order a few of those. Then need to call Specialty Enclosures and order perch holders and elevated water bowl holder and also get some silk plants. Then I'll have the 18x18x18 cube vacant. And with that, you know dang well, I'll end up either getting a red neo GTP or maybe a ETB over a chest freezer...its like a never ending circle lol. I'm going to make an effort for the chest freezer but i usually cave when i see baby snakes lol.

Just think of how many more snakes you could afford when you’re spending half as much on feeders... oh the possibilities...

You know, i tell myself that every time and you know what...i end up coming home with a new snake or a new cage.....every time lol..

I'm almost willing to bet i will get a red neo gtp or an etb before i get that freezer.....as i am already looking at them on Fauna, Kingsnake and on the buy/sell gtp and etb pages on fb hahaha.

Been eyeballing some of Ian Bessels stuff at S&J reptiles.

i have my own ~5-cu ft freezer for the rats so i buy in bulk. feeding my 7 snakes probably costs me ~$20/week, and my crested gecko is too new for me to be able to include here.

my beeps are young tho so this price has been slowly rising as they get bigger.

Re: How much is your weekly feeding cost? POLL

I started to calculate it and have a mini panic attack lol Probably close to $100 a week for all of my animals, not including my semi feral children. Dogs, cat, frog, chickens, only 50ish snakes currently but that will go up a lot with babies hatching and I need to bump my burm up to eating rabbits. I also have some tropical plants that I spend way too much on their various soil conditioners to keep them going so I consider them more like pets. I do luck out a few times a year getting a couple hundred lab rats for free but that varies.

To me a freezer is as essential as any other husbandry item, especially if you have more then a few animals. The savings can not be ignored. The only difference for me between having one twenty five years ago and now, is that my wife is finally willing to put people food in there with the snake food. I could not imagine feeding multiple animals, and paying pet store prices for food. I’m not even exaggerating, I literally feed five for the cost of one. In my area alone, a mouse is close to six dollars. Plus the time involved having to drive out to pick one up.

My feeding cost vary on how many animals I have and that always vary but the cost per feeder is $0.50 or less per snake.

I can get a 3 pound rabbit or retired breeder female jumbo rat for six bucks.
