Where do you buy aspen from for your hogs?

I’ve been using the Harlan Teklad aspen shavings but it’s so dusty that even I get a sore throat/nose after cleaning out tubs.

I’ve heard that you can sometimes get mites when you buy aspen. I don’t know if that’s true or whether it’s just from certain places/brands, but I was just wondering what everyone here uses and if it’s not too dusty + the best place to find it. I’ve dealt with mites once and it was not fun so I’d like to avoid that as much as possible.

i just get the basic aspen snake bedding (thats the literal name of it) it’s expensive but it holds burrows REALLY well and its not dusty at all, i love it personally

I used to use Harlan Teklad bedding, but the place I would order from is now chewy or something and they don't have it. If I could find a good deal on it then I would get it again. Otherwise, I get mine from a local breeder.

I might go with this one, but on the bag it says it may cause respiratory illness/death in small animals? I can’t tell if it’s referring to aspen in general (like the dust levels) or specifically this brand of aspen.

Probably the dust level. I've been using American Excelsior aspen for years on my snakes and never had a problem. I do mist it down though when i first put it in as contrary to people who say aspen molds, it only molds if it has waste material in it but then again, coco fiber will grow too if you leave a turd or piss soaked coco in the cage and give it good mistings.

I never noticed any more than usual dust in it. Also it might be because it is finely shredded vs most small animal wood chips you find are shavings and not shredded.

The best stuff i have found so far with low to no dust is cypress. Even dried out, the stuff doesnt create dust. Aspen and coco will create dust even if they claim it's dust free. I used to use Zoo Med Aspen and that stuff had dust too.
