    Mystery female help

    Hello everyone

So I rescued a female ball python from Petsmart about 4 years ago, and was under the impression she was a super pastel. I decided to breed her with my proven fire male, and figured that I'd get a clutch of 50/50 pastels and fireflies. Well she laid 4 good eggs that hatched today, and boy am I confused because from what I can tell I got 1 normal, 1 fire, and 2 fireflies. I also don't think she can just be pastel based on her looks, and 2 of the babies look like they might have a bit more going on than just a fire/pastel combo. My guess is perhaps she's actually a pastel enchi? Let me know what you guys think, any help/opinions are much appreciated!

So I don't want to make this post absolutely massive, so I'm only going to embed the photo I took of her, and provide links to the images of the babies.

    The female:

    Firefly #2:

The babies are ID'd under the assumption she's just a pastel which I don't think is possible. I'm thinking the fire is extremely reduced so perhaps it's a fire enchi? And the fireflies look quite different, #2 is much more orange and reduced, so I'm wondering if it's a fire pastel enchi?

Yes I believe mom is also a Pastel Enchi. The one you believe to be a fire looks like just an Enchi to me with no fire and firefly #1 looks to be a super pastel fire

Wait until after they shed for the first time though, it will be much easier to identify them

Looked at the pics before I read what you thought and I thought enchi pastel. The fire definitely looks enchi. And possibly the first firefly. The reduction in pattern and banding across the eye being thick is what made me think enchi. No expert but I have several enchis and that's what I look for reduction in pattern and thick banding across the eyes. Sometimes it will even connect or start to connect to the pattern on the back of the neck. Beautiful babies and congrats.

    Excellent thank you!

I think I also might agree with you on the fire being an enchi as well! The first firefly can't be a super pastel fire because only the mom has pastel. The dad was just a fire. Maybe he's just a super bright firefly? I do agree he's unusually bright, but like you said the color will likely drop a bit when he sheds. Do you think the second firefly is just a firefly? I find it weird how his pattern just tapers out as you go along his body. I'm going to post a few more picture albums on this reply to show more.

    Mystery female help

That first firefly is way to bright to not be a super pastel

    Re: Mystery female help

Wow that really does look just like him I definitely can't deny that... but I don't see how it could be possible because the sire didn't have pastel? I posted a picture of him in my reply and I'm pretty sure he's a straight up fire. He was also the only sire for the clutch. This is very odd.

I'm looking on morphmarket and I'm seeing some enchi fireflies that are quite bright but not quite as flushed out as him. Maybe after he sheds he'll kind of dull out to their level and he's an enchi firefly?

Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out with this .

Thank you very much for your input! Just to clarify, are you thinking it's a fire enchi, or just an enchi? I'm also thinking the first firefly is probably enchi as well. Snow Balls is right that it's just way too bright. I appreciate the tip on how you normally look for enchis, I'll be sure to use that in the future. I added some albums in a previous reply if you want to check out a few extra pictures of the babies. I tried to keep them under the same lighting.

    Thanks!!!

I need some better pics, especially face and not so balled up of the first two but I agree mom is Enchi (+Pastel).

I question this one having Fire https://imgur.com/em5SnE6 and think its just Enchi Pastel.

This one looks like Enchi Firefly to me https://imgur.com/gUop2px

Based on what I can see of the first two, I think the first is Normal, and the second is Enchi without Fire.

Wait for shed and get some more pics and Fire should be a lot easier to ID, but based on the headstamp, blushing and flaming I think only the one got Fire.
