    Cotton Towels for Substrate?

I found this photo on the ARS website and to me this looks like a cotton towel for substrate? I just ordered some ReptiZorb liners to try them out, I didn't get them in yet but I did find a post of someone who was taking the used ReptiZorb liners, spraying them with disinfectant and washing them in the clothes washer machine to reuse them. If that works I could really save some money, but even better if you could use a plan ol towel and just do a load of laundry to clean up! And this ball python looks really comfortable on this towel too!

That may be a towel, but the way its piled around the water bowl makes me think its just a fine substrate like that white diamond bedding.

This stuff maybe. I wouldnt want to have snake crap in my washing machine to wash the extra towels. Even shaking it out, my big gals leave large dog size piles that would really soak in.

    Re: Cotton Towels for Substrate?

I am very interested in these ReptiZorb liners. Who on this site has used them and your thoughts. Do the ones that use them - wash and reuse or just throw out the soiled ones??

I think I would prefer to throw them out but haven't been able to find out the price for the size liners I would need. Might be too expensive.

I've emailed the mfg. to see what the cost is for the size I need. Very curious.

I'm working to get some Repti-Zorb liners and talking to the manufacturer (Superior Shipping Supplies). I ordered the liners with holes for my ARS racks, although it looks like ARS changed the style of their tubs a couple years ago so there are two different hole sizes. They will send me the new liners, hopefully they will fit.

I also had them cut custom liners for my ARS boa tubs and my ARS-8010 tubs with the dimensions I provided. Looks like they are $1.04 each for the 8018 tubs and $1.36 each for the boa tub liners for 30 each. Apparently it's much cheaper if you buy them in bulk, the price per liner goes way down, but I want to try 30 each to start. Plus shipping is $17.50, seems it's a flat rate shipping for any size order. Kind of pricy but if you can reuse them it may be a better option. And with most liners they have the option of ordering 1000 at a time, much cheaper that way, but you better be sure you like them first LOL.

I'm thinking if the snakes just pee in the tub you can wash it, but if it's brown and dirty maybe throw those out. Can't be much worse than washing the sheets when the kids pee the bed LOL. I've heard of people spraying them down with Chlorhexidine before washing, maybe F10 would work too.

    Re: Cotton Towels for Substrate?

Hannah beat me to it, but yeah it looks to me like some type of paper substrate. I've seen it used for rabbits and guinea pigs before, but not sure how it would work for snakes.

It says it is virtually odor and dust free

For example Kaytee Clean & Cozy Small Animal Bedding states that it is designed to absorb fluids and expand to over 3X its original size. My concerns center around accidental ingestion.

    Re: Cotton Towels for Substrate?

I only have a few snakes so I'm hoping it won't be too expensive. I think I would prefer to just discard any soiled liner. Washing them just doesn't sound good to me. LOL

I need them for 4x2 cages so it may just be too pricey. They are working up a quote for me now.

I'm with L West on this one. If I run snake soiled liners through the wash machine I think I'm going to find myself being single very soon.

    Re: Cotton Towels for Substrate?

Plus with washing them - I'm sure there would be some residual detergent left on them - that could irritate the snakes skin. Just saying.

I'm all for throwing them out if it is at all possible vs. the cost of the product.

I currently use Uline Indented Kraft paper. I like it but its always fun to try something new.

One of my Jungle Carpets once messed on some bedsheets big time. Heck, I threw the sheets away! I was not about to wash them. And I would never consider putting snake liners in my washing machine.
