    PSA: use a thermostat

So I plugged it in one of those little UTH's sold at every pet store. Need to quarantine a new hatchling and I figured it probably would get mildly warm, at best.

    A little toasty:

All UTH get pretty freakin hot lol. I think the only one that is supposed to not are Ultratherms but i still wouldnt trust any heat source to run with a t-stat.

And yeah, that is just a slight bit warm lol.

    Excellent thread / post !!

Maybe it should be a 'sticky' thread to show newbies the danger of not using a thermostat..

This is the exact kind of thing some people need to get the point across. I have seen too many write ups lately by people upset their cage got scorched because of the "defective" RHP, ceramic emitter, or UTH only to be told that putting a heating element on a cage without a way to regulate the heat is dangerous.

On a side note, ultratherms still can get dangerously hot and need a thermostat

i thought u were an experienced old timey herper; temps like that shouldn't come as a surprise in a unregualated heatsource. i remember my friend AKA Dave did this experiment back when we were noobs and made as PSA as well: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...amn-that-s-hot!

anyways! whatcha getting in the QT enclosure? i'm looking forward to pix!

yep, i don't understand this. alot of them don't sell t-stats even tho the big brands like Zilla and Zoomed have t-stats and rheostats. most work on a dial and aren't as fancy or accurate as VE's or Herpstat's but it's better than 105/150degree temps. Exo-Terra even came to market last year w/ nice digital t-stats and i don't see these in stores either. they can encourage better care for their animals and still making money selling these products. it boggles my mind why they don't do this.
