    Smeagols first official handling session..

Today was his first just for fun handling session. No picking on stuck shed, or putting in a Deli cup or weighing. Just a pick up and hold a bit.
He is quite calm. He will move, but not being spazzy or hyper. In the end he was perfectly happy staying halfway on his tree, halfway on my hand.
I believe he was starting to go to sleep and my hand cramped up..LOL. So I gently nudged him to go up on his tree.
Just a few minutes but it was enough.
He stayed fired down and pale, so he didn't get overly excited.
I believe he shed in the past couple of nights and ate it. All the old stuck shed is gone and he wasn't hungry 2 nights ago.
So weird to feel the little feet, I'm used to leg less reptiles..LOL.

I hold my hand/fingers under his chin and chest and gently encourage him to climb onto the hand. I never just grab him. Always scoop up from underneath..

    Soooo cute!!

I take it cresties arent as territorial as i heard Leachies can be?

Heard Leachies will sometimes attack you if you put your hand in their cage. You gotta just pick them up fast so they really dont know whats going on until they are outside the cage and then they are mellow lol.

I'm still quite the newbie when it comes to geckos, but I've heard the same, plus I've seen some very funny movies of Leachies attacking. They bark and yip like dogs, LOL !! Quite the little Rottweilers they are! I think that would be sort of funny, the projectile pooping on the owner...not so much!!

Another fun Gecko seems to be the Gargoyle. Seem calmer for handling from what I've heard. Plus they regrow their tail if they drop it, unlike Cresties.

What draws me to Crested Geckos is that they seem so unbelievably derpy. They are just to cute with their strange little ways. Plus they look so cool with their crest !!

Mine isn't territorial at all, or at least not yet. He also isn't a Spazz. I can't really explain it, just something about them They sleep in very funny poses at times, too, which is hilarious! They are such clowns !!

Lol the projectile pooping would be hilarious as long as it wasnt to me

I had a Tokay gecko back when i was a kid and that evil spawn would bark too. He also would bite the heads off pinkie mice and eat just the head. I used to have to chase him from one side of the cage to the other side with a dowel stick when i cleaned his cage. He was really pretty cool to look at it but my god, he was evil. He would open his mouth and look at you. I picture a little air quote over his head of 'Come at me bro" lol.

I do want a leachie still. But they are pretty darn expensive...and yeah yeah, i have expensive snakes but thats different than an expensive lizard

I totally agree. You have to have a neat Lizard to round out everything. There has to be a balance !!!

Tokays are fierce. I can't believe yours bit off and ate heads. Jeeeezzzz...He would have been a great extra at a Ozzy Osbourne concert.

So yeah, I'll be expecting Leachie pictures from you soon!

Join the crestie club and then progress to a leachie !!!

any reason why they are so expensive ?

have they always been or is it one of those they are new or morphs are being creative so they are expensive for a period of time and then they fizzle.

I’ve been reading about leachies (and picked up my baby at Tinley) and it’s partly because they can be fussy about compatibility with potential mates, and then it can take a while for a pair to start producing, and then they can decide they don’t like each other any more! Next time I’m at my local show I may ask one of the breeders that has leachies how they manage to pair them up.

Yes, I never had any territorial behavour from my cresties but our leachie will sometimes lunge and bite when first going into her enclosure every once in a while.
