Tanami, Woma Python
This morning I realized Tanami was in the same spot he spent most of yesterday. As soon as I touched him I realized he was gone. A couple weeks ago his scales looked pretty ruffled up from a combination of mites, soaking, and being in shed, but perked up after we treated his enclosure with Provent-A-Mite, he shed, and ate.
Last weekend we treated other enclosures with Provent-A-Mite, and at one point a couple/few days after I did see him staring at the ceiling, but moved when I opened his cage, so I wasn’t sure if he was stargazing or just being silly snek, and didn’t see a repeat.
Unfortunately, I’ll never know if it was mites, the Provent-A-Mite, or some combination, as his body wasn’t in a good enough condition for a necroscopy.
Called my husband to cry on his virtual shoulder, he’s at a loss also. And he won’t be back home until Saturday (truck driver). At least I’ve got my dogs. Tanami was such a sweet boy, never aggressive, even the one feed-response bite was my fault and not serious.

I'm so sorry for your loss, he was beautiful and I know you did your best to help him. Perhaps this species is more susceptible to toxins than most.

Sorry to hear that. I know I'd be pretty gutted if i lost any of my little spuds. People think us reptile owners are weird but me personally, i look at them like my little 'scaly kids'. I was raised that pets are 100% dependent on the owner so i guess that imprinted on me.
Anyways, sorry again to hear the loss. My heart goes out.

So sorry to hear about your loss. My guess is that it was Provent-a-mite. I'm scared to use that stuff. Apparently you can't spray it directly on the snake and it's best to spray the substrate and let it dry out a bit before putting the snake back. This is the first time I've heard of it possibly killing a snake on this forum.

Re: Tanami, Woma Python
Thank you all, most of my friends and co-workers don’t “get” my affection for our herps, so it helps to hear from others who do.
I kept busy yesterday (I’d previously scheduled it off), which helps keep the brain weasels/what-ifs muted.

I’d heard about it as a possibility, either on an older thread here or elsewhere, so I’d started the mite war with Reptile Relief. That seems to have worked on the original infestation in another room, but wasn’t cutting it in this room, so we upgraded to the P-a-M, and we thought we were careful and allowed plenty of dry time before returning the snakes to their enclosures. (we did not use both, had been about a week after last using the RR that we changed substrate and used the P-a-M)
My carpet python on the other side of the divided T8 seems good, but I’m keeping a close eye on him, as well as the other snakes whose enclosures we treated.
