My Two 7 Tub Rat Breeding Rack Builds
I am happy to say that this project is finished! lol It was easy, just A LOT of work since I built 2 of them at the same time! I still have to get my automatic watering systems all hooked up, but that will be a piece of cake. I took pictures as I went and I will be putting a detailed tutorial on my website that I will share with you guys once it's done. If anyone has any questions or needs and tips or suggestions on building these feel free to ask away!

I decided not to build actual maternity racks. My plan is to use some of the leftover wire screen to make little ramps for weanlings to climb up to reach the food and water. Do you guys think that will be alright?

Honestly, seeing the size of the weaned that I do have, they reach the food without a problem.... what I ran into was mommas fighting over the babes and then some of them dying due to one mom having 20 and the other having 8.... then that caused deaths of perfectly good feeders, plus it was hard to keep track with three litters in one tub....

Looks great! I am on the cusp of making one, if i may ask a question....
I assume these are the mixing tubs from lowes, what was your space between each tub?

When the babies are big enough to be weaned they'll be big enough to reach the food. Ramps aren't necessary.
The racks look good. Nice work!

Completely unnecessary, I have been breeding rats out of tubs like those for 8 years and never had a weaned rat having any issue reaching food or water.
My advice keep it simple.

Yes, those are the 27.9 x 20.3 x 6.3 (27 liter/7 gallon) multi-purpose mixing trays from Lowes. I left 8 1/2" from the bottom of one frame to the top of the next. If you are planning on using individual water bottles instead of an automatic watering system you would most likely need more space. I used all of the dimensions given in the following video:

Oh excellent, i am familiar with that video as well!
I plan on doing an auto watering system, so that spacing would be fine
Thank you!

I finally got around to getting my automatic watering system all hooked up today. It was SUPER SIMPLE to do! It probably only took me about 15 - 20 minutes per rack. If anyone has any questions about building these or hooking up an auto watering system, feel free to ask and i'll be happy to help...
