    CHE vs heat bulb

So let me start by saying that I regret every taking this exoterra and I’m reaching out to pvc and plastic enclosure creators as I type this because this humidity flux is killing me.

In the mean time I tried doing some research to see if maybe switching from the red heat bulbs 75watt I have running would be a temporary idea and go with a CHE. I keep coming across which provide better heat and what not but I just really want to know if CHE dry the air less more or the same as a heat bulb. It seems the few articles or posts I did find say that a CHE won’t dry the tank as much. If anyone could weigh in I would appreciate it.

I’ll keep on spraying until then!! Lol

In my experience, a CHE didn't suck as much humidity out of the tank, but still enough that the humidity levels were below acceptable without multiple daily mistings.

Thank you. So what was your solution. Did you upgrade the tank? Add a humidifier? Something else?

They do still suck the humidity, RHPs do that the least out of the ambient heaters in my experience.

I don't really notice much of an impact with any of those heat sources, though. I have just enough ventilation to allow for fresh air without letting too much humidity out, and instead of spraying I pour water directly into the bedding and mix it up to evenly spread the moisture. Once it dries out, I do it again. I only have to do this maybe once every 1-2 weeks, and it doesn't require any additional spraying or extra work from me.

I use EcoEarth, but this should also work with any other coco product. With moss, I take the bedding out, soak it in water, strain the excess out, and replace the bedding. I haven't had luck keeping humidity up with aspen, ReptiBark, or cypress mulch (which actively repels water once it dries).

I really like glass enclosures so I opted for a reptifogger. I tried using a humidifier, but it didn't keep the tank where it needed to be and it just made my room super humid lol. With the reptifogger it basically delivers the humidity right into the tank. I'm going to put it on a timer and monitor the humidity and adjust accordingly. I'll let you know how it works out when it gets here!

Please do let me know. I looked them up but the reviews were spotty with a lot saying they just crapped out after a few months.

How do you plan to feed it into a screen top? Cut a hole or lay it right on top of the screen?

Thank you cloud this is helpful! I purchased a bunch of coco bedding. I don’t think I wet it enough and the misting I don’t think is wetting it enough. Maybe I need to do just as you say and pour water right over it and mix it and leave it damp. How damp do you get it. I guess I’m afraid to over do it. I’m using repchip right now.

I'm going to lay it on top of the screen - I'm probably going to secure it with hot glue or something- I hope it doesn't crap out on me
