Thermostat probe question.

I hate how when its under the tank ontop of the heat tape it makes it not flush with the tank. should i just leave extra heat tape to hang outside of the tub and stick the probe on just the heat tape. or should i make a little hole in the desk to make the probe flush but still touching the heat tape. whats the better/safer option? or are both the same. i see alot of people say just to put in between the heatmat and the tub. but then the heatmat isnt flush on the tub and it makes the tub not level.

If you put the probe on tape that isn't contacting the tub, you won't get the proper temp and the part that is actually contacting the tub will be alot cooler that the part not contacting it.

Also, you could glue some small wood blocks to the bottom of the tub at all 4 corners to slightly elevate the tub itself and that should solve all the issues you are having

No, between the tub and the tape. For the most accurate reading you want the probe to be heated by the tape and cooled by the tub. That's about the best way to get an accurate reading without putting the probe in the tub which unfortunately you can't and shouldn't do

I was having those same concerns about the UTH not being flush with the tank bottom :/ I was worried it would effect the temps inside. Is this not the case?

no its not the case its fine, it's what everyone does and its the safest way to regulate heat mats. an the temps don't need to be 100% spot on and completely even. mine fluctuates anywhere from 87° to 92° over the heat pad.

I agree raise your tub so the heat can ventilate and stuff and so it won’t potentially cause Damage to whatever surface it’s on? But I tape my probe on top of the UTH so like glass UTH probe I tape it with aluminum foil tape and it seems to be fine use a heat gun on the inside glass and adjust that thermostat according to that? Plus you should raise the tub or tank so that whatever wires it’s on isn’t getting smashed between the table it’s on and the tub
This is just some advice I got from people on here that helped me with probe placement a lot of people’s info changes but one thing that most people agree on is that the probe shouldn’t be inside the enclosure because it can get pooped on peed on or moved and cause the readings do be off

Keeping the probe on the heattape that is directly under your tub is the best bet. Heattape doesn't usually heat evenly, and a small amount of fluctuation is perfectly acceptable, but it will help to keep the temps around the proper amount.
