    Corny escaped...

or so i thought! please enjoy this tale of true fear and relief.

i haven't seen Corny in almost a week. TBH i don't see him most of the time because he likes to burrow (i keep his substrate deep). the first couple of days i didn't worry: that's what he does, no biggie.

day...5? rolls around. i was doing some cleaning and decided "okay where tf is he??" so i proceed to tear the enclosure apart.

    NOTHING.

now, before i go further, let me explain my experience with Corns: their poop is absolutely disgusting, and i feel like mine tries to hide his poop. i can only find it if i go in and dig for it. did i mention it's gross?

i'm tearing this enclosure apart bare handed. full-blown panic mode. i find the random piles of burried poop with my hands. he's nowhere. i'm feeling true terror. what have i done? i leave and use the restroom. i go over every action i've ever had with him. i'm the worst owner ever. i've lost pythons; my record is 100% at finding loose pythons. Colubrids? no friggin clue what to do.

i just thoroughly cleaned my room before this. he's not in my room. did i step on him during cleaning?

i give the substrate one last hands-on sifting. i find a body.

    the body looks blue.

i move more substrate away from the body. no movement? i move more...was that a twitch?

i grab him. alive. DEEPLY in blue. super upset.

i went through the broadest spectrum of emotions today. i thought my worst nightmare came true. holy crap you guys. i was terrified. i sprayed down his enclosure and he tucked away into his warm hide.

    oh my goodness.

You poor thing !!! I can relate to the panic and sick feeling...

When I had 8 hatchlings I accidentally put one hatchling in the same tub with another (they looked identical). I guess I thought I had "the other one", and when I returned it to the tub I only pulled it open a bit and put the little one in, without realizing there was another one all the way in the back.

A little later during "check up" I pull the tub of Killer Bee #1 open and its EMPTY !!! I felt like you, like what in the world ???? Which started a frantic pulling of all the tubs. Of course I didn't notice that the one tub had 2 Killer bees in it because they were curled up together and they were almost identical, and I didn't look close...

Yeah, I looked EVERYWHERE in that room and I kept thinking, how did that even happen ??

Finally, after checking all the tubs for the 20th time I realized...hold on...that is 2 Killer bees in ONE tub. Sheesh...

I'm glad you found Corny, I'm sure he was not amused at your frantic disruption of his rest. LOL Was probably wondering what had gotten into you...

Well, cage clean, Corny in it, all is well that ends well
