    Augustus June 2017 - February 2018

I'm sad to say that IBD has claimed my first ever BP. I plan on returning to the store to warn them of a possible outbreak from whatever breeder they buy as well as their stock.

This really is a heartbreaking for this to be my first experience in herping, especially so having to watch the poor little be robbed of what should have been a long life. I'll be throwing away what I can from the enclosure and clean and disinfecting what I can't with a diluted bleach solution, then let stuff sit outside a few weeks in the cold.

I'll be buying from a local breeder this time around if I can find one. While his life may have been cut short, he turned many people around who once feared snakes, to see them in a different light and even find them cute. He truly changed some lives.

And I want to thank those that offered great advice to me on these forums, it's probably what allowed him to live longer than expected.

i'm sorry to hear about your loss.

how was your BP diagnosed w/ IDB? that's not something to be taken lightly or set false alarms to a whole store about.

Sorry to hear about your first BP. I'm also curious to hear how the IBD diagnosed, most of cases I've heard of recently were not IBD. Nothing scares me more than IBD, I've had my boa for 2 years now and it has never seen my snake room.

How was he diagnosed. If it is through testing and a Vet the entire Reptile community needs to know what store he came from and who the Wholesaler or Breeder is. IBD spreads like Wild Fire and could effect thousands that are being shipped all over the states.

Im not trying to be inconsiderate considering a pet & friend has Passed but how/if a diagnosis was made needs to be known. As far as I can tell the OP joined a month ago and I didn't see a Vet visit thread unless i missed it. A shout out of IBD is very, very serious and Ive seen (false) posts like this now and then based on a owner not knowing what their snake died from. If it was diagnosed several of the pet stores go threw importers like Retiles By Mack. That could be a heck of a outbreak.

Thanks for all the replies. The store I go to are very nice people and I certainly didn't want to go in there and cause a huge panic. He hasn't been diagnosed yet, the store is actually sending the snake themselves for a necropsy to see if it really is IBD. I honestly believe it is, though I hope I am wrong, but he could have been the poster boy for IBD, he had a lot of the symptoms.

My biggest concern was if the store was buying from a breeder with infected or passive carriers, or if their stock was infected. Sorry if I caused anyone to panic, this has just been an emotional experience for my family. If I get word of the results, I will definitely post it here.

    Right
Oh look the boy who cried wolf

YOU are not a vet there are many symptoms that can resemble IBD, the truth of the matter is IBD is pretty rare and sadly too many people like yourself go and read symptoms online and all of the sudden diagnose their animal with the worth disease possible they can find, well I guess since some people do the same to themselves (hypochondriacs) why not?

Several things mimic IBD. If the store sends it for a necropsy (i doubt they will spend the money) you should insist they give you the results. Im sorry your pet died, I understand what these little guys mean to us all.
With that said none of us should ever make a thread/post saying something died of IBD on a whim. Thats one disease that can cause a world of trouble for Herpers.
Clean everything like you mentioned and im sure you'll have fun looking into whats next.
