Male vs Female for Certain Morphs
Hey all,
Im new here and to ball pythons. I'm wondering about breeding. It's not something I'll be getting into anytime soon but I'm still trying to learn the genetics of these amazing animals. When breeding two animals that have certain traits, does it matters if it's the male or female that caries a certain morph? Are any traits sex-linked? Has anyone observed a difference in ratios if it's a specific sex that caries the morph you're looking for?
What I'm getting at is if you're building a collection of base morph animals to create combos are you looking for a specific sex that carries a specific morph or are you only looking for a sex that can be matched with your existing animal?
Thanks

the only proven sex-linked trait is the Male-Maker and Female-Maker trait of the Banana/Coral Glow morph. i don't know nearly enough about it to explain so here's a great article about what it means to have a Male-Maker or Female-Maker Banana/Coral Glow.
for any other morph it does not matter which is male or female.
welcome to the forum!

in addition to the Banana/CG morph, Desert females do not produce viable eggs.
Edit: to put the Banana/CG morph simply, the boys born from a Banana/CG dad will produce boys; boys from Banana/CG moms will produce girls. females produce normal random boy-girl ratios.

totally forgot. thank you!
to add another addition: here's a listing of issues that come with certain morphs as well as lethal/risky pairings.

From a genetic stand point no it does not matter the result will be the same.
From a sex ratio standpoint the only exceptions are Coral Glow and Banana (same thing)
From an investment standpoint yes it does matter, you would not want to waste a 2, 3 or 4 genes female for example with a normal male.
