    Snake Skeleton ID

    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knows of ways to identify a snake skeleton? I am currently taking an anatomy class and one of the model specimens is a medium sized skeleton of a snake. Based off of the teeth and size of the animal I immediately thought burmese or reticulated python but am not sure. If any of you can identify the snake from the photos that would be awesome! Also, please share your method of identification if possible.

most likely a python. i'd guess Burmese as well based on size alone, and i think Retics have longer teeth that that skeleton has.

    total guess from me tho!

Your best bet would be to find a lab that can ID based on DNA.

Based off of recent publications I've read, I would think your best bet is the skull actually. Based on the size of the skeleton you can somewhat narrow your selections down. The skull plates do vary by species if it's a Burmese or Reticulated python for example.

Interesting. The teeth are very small compared to the body size of that animal. I agree it would be easiest to use the skull.

Burm and retic skulls look very similar, even a boa looks similar, don't think a lay person would be able to tell the difference.
