I had seen a herp w my last bp and she told me a natural remedy for an inflamed hiney hole that sugar helps extract that flame. You make a 'paste' out of it and let it sit for about 15. I only did it for 10 but then put sugar in her baths. Yal think I'm crazy I can tell lol it really works though.
Glad the sugar treatment worked for your snoot. I'm not sure it is the only reason the swelling went down, but I can explain the why that may have been recommended. In mammals, especially livestock - the females can prolapse their uterus during the birthing process (rectal prolapse can also occur from trauma or illness too). An old home remedy (that a lot of veterinarians still use) is to coat it with regular old granulated sugar which pulls the extra fluid (inflammation) out of the exposed tissue and that helps the body (with some assistance) to pull the organ back in.
So if your little one was having very inflamed cloacal tissue, the sugar would have helped pull out the fluid causing the swelling and allowed the tissue to retract. Again, never heard of this use in reptiles, but swelling is swelling so theoretically the concept is the same
