I'm confused, I just got a RTB that looks just like that. It was labeled as a "red tail boa" . Why do you hate that term?

Rtb is like a common name and there not normally that red more orange and brown but The true red tails are bcc and are normally Suriname, Guyana and even Peruvian red tail, there is a few more classed as bcc also , the difference in the tail colour is second to none generally and will nearly all ways have paperwork or at least lineage details

Its not the scientific name of the snake. The snakes name is either boa constrictor constrictor or boa constrictor imperator. Red tail boa is a bull:cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: term created by the pet trade. And then they added the term „true red tail“ for boa constrictor constrictor because their tails have darker red color than boa constrictor imperator. Both have red tails, it’s just that one is darker than the other.. lol

The tank it was in at the pet store said "Columbian red tail boa" so I just went with it. I'll probably just call it a red tail boa when talking to friends because if I call it a bci, I'll have to explain all that and I'm lazy

It's no longer BCc an BCi, it's BC and BI (FYI!)

I would avoid 'red tail boa' as that generally is used for BC. Call it a Colombian boa or Common Boa as that is what they are supposed to be called (BI). Colombian (not Columbian) is the locality.

Because "red tail' is a name coined by pet shops. Technically a BCI doesnt have a 'red' tail. Only BCC do. Pet shops just call all BCI 'red tails' as well which then just confuses newer people. That's why i hate the term 'red tail'. I call them by their names such as common boa, sunglow boa, Suriname boa, Peruvian boa unless i talking to to people who know, then i use the BCI and BCC terms

Actually a lot dont come with papers and papers to me personally mean nothing as they can easily be faked. The only papers which would be hard to fake would be CITES import papers but like i said, those can also be a bit deceiving as there are certain 'deport' areas and snakes can be collected a long ways away from that spot. And also if you look at Guyana and Suriname, they are divided by a political border and a river, neither of which stop a snake so to me, unless you can 'prove' the snake in question was actually collected IN Guyana or Suriname, they are pretty much the same. I've seen Surinames with purple sides and I've seen Guyanas without purple sides. Kind of a grey area there is you ask me.

And to add, a lot of the Peruvians I've seen actually have more of an orange tail. The perfect ones to me are the nice pinched saddles like a Hypo with a nice golden top to them.../drool. That is going to be my next snake i think...or a moonglow BCI lol
