Weird color change - Red Axanthic
Lately Maze has been looking a bit... odd. I know some color change is expected during shed, but this doesn't look like an approaching shed to me. I also know that Red Axanthics turn a bit more cream and brown with age, though I haven't really been able to find any photos beyond the before (hatchling) and after (adult).
Taken underneath my 6500k plant bulbs, 1/9/18:
That's not a trick of the light; her neck and head is grey, and then from back to tail-tip her scales have a yellow tint. It's very subtle, but she's been like this for about two weeks now. I don't think anything is wrong, and I'm not worried... just perplexed. You'd think this would have shown up more obviously right after her last shed, but she still looked very grey around Christmas-time.

I know lighting plays a part, but she looks like the top photos all the time now. She's 7 months old, nearly 300 grams. When do you guys start noticing color changes in morphs?

Re: Weird color change - Red Axanthic
kind of reminds me of Coffee Bean's current change in color. i think it might have to do with where Maze is at weight-wise, but that's a total guess.
tbh, there's a chance at next shed where she'll shed out and have that same brown/red coloration come back a bit. again, total guess (remember Ax01 and their Clown?).
have you noticed any darker coloration on her sheds? i've noticed this with Coffee Bean; wish i had a photo.
EDIT: i notice beeps start to really grow into their adult colors around 300-400g and continue from there.

Thing with RAs is, the babies start out like a typical axanthic, only as they age they gain their creams and browns. She never lost it, because she never had it to begin with. But yeah, based off of her weight and your observations, she's right on the cusp of Color Change City, haha! Maze's sheds are always dark, and she's only had two complete ones with me -- not much for a basis, unfortunately.

What a cutie! Isn't Boople a HRA? Also, do you have any recent pics of her in natural daylight? She is definitely coming into that pastel! Yellow girl! .
Red axanthics (super form) naturally have lighter heads than their HRA counterparts, and Maze always looks super contrasty on her head except when she's in shed. Only difference from most Super RAs is her nose spots aren't as separated as most seem to be (from corey woods' website on RAs showcasing the gene - http://www.coreywoods.com/RedAxanthic/RA09.jpg ).
I thought it was really weird that her body's changing color, but not her head. Tiny weirdo in a snake-shaped body. lmao.

Yes I do think she is het. Ax01 knows more than I do about her genes lol. But her and maze are twinsies lol. It's cold here but I can see about a daylight pic when I get another day off.

that kinda looks like what happened to Morrible, my horrible Pastave: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...My-Horrible-BP she "grayed" out but still has a yellow tint.
i love the dorsal blushing on Mazi. she's a pretty girl.

i know the breeder u got Boople from. if i can recall she's Pastel, HRA (Het Red Axanthic) and Day Chocolate. it's just all those words together can make it confusing.
