Live feeder rat bled from mouth after being struck and constricted, is this normal?

So on Saturday I fed me and my dad's BPs, and when I fed my dad's, he struck and constricted the rat like usual, only this time blood came out from the rat's mouth. Now, we didn't feed them last week because they were in shed, and since my dad's BP is smaller than mine the metabolism is obviously quicker, so is the rat-blood-mouth just because he struck and constricted harder than usual, or that he struck something vital, or is it a sick rat? If the rat was sick, would it affect the snake?

P.S. Sorry for the all-over-the-place storytelling, a bit dizzy right now.

I would say you have nothing to worry about, just something may have ruptured during the constricting. Not uncommon for eyes to bulge or little blood to show.

Alright, thanks! I was just worried because for two and a half months of weekly feeding, that's never happened before and I was worried that the snake might get ill or something. Good to know it's nothing serious

There is a tremendous amount of force when a snake construct the prey and blood coming from the prey is not abnormal at all.

When the snake constricts, it compresses the heart to stop it within seconds, but sometimes it will increase blood pressure to the point that vessels rupture. The rat could even have bitten it's own tongue when struck. It's fine.

Happens all the time. One of my snakes used to slam them into the enclosure wall and use the wall to help increase the pressure, almost always blood squirted out the rat’s mouth. It was over very, very quickly for the rat though.

I find that it almost never happens when feeding live, pretty uncommon for me but it does happen once in awhile. Sometimes you have to spray down the snake with water the next day LOL.
