Packing tape is fine, it’s not going to melt or be a fire hazard.. the heat mat is on a thermostat, and they don’t even get hot enough to burn tape unregulated. The snake would be cooked long before the tape melted.

alright- so joe at southwest dragons finally replied. the one that i wanted (the albino) is now sold out of nowhere, and the other two are tiny. the hypo is 5g and the het hypo is 10g being that im a beginner would it be the safer bet to go for the 10g?

Yes 10 grams is better (5 grams is the average weight out of the egg) however you still need to go with a 6 QUARTS tub this is TOO BIG for a 10 grams hatchling (look again at the picture I posted and how big 6 quarts is for a tiny baby)

yes i know, my heat pad wont work properly on either of my 6 quarts right now, this is entirely temporary until i can get the new UTH. worst case i have a 2.7 q container too that i could probably make work if need be.
