    Re: Chaining dogs 24/7!

I don't think there is much you can do. But let me say this...this woman disgustes me even more now. To use a mental disorder as a excuse to mentally torture such a social animal that needs his pack. I guess abusing this animal doesn't cause them any anxiety. For your sake though...tread carefully. Don't want issues with your landlord. When I read between her lines, I read "back off".

I live in Tennessee and yes I do understand the jokes about this state and some really bad laws but one thing they have stepped up on is animal abuse. Dogs especially have gained a huge amount of legal protection against abuse like this.

I agree with Zina, tread carefully. It is not worth getting evicted over something like this. If it really bothers you the best thing you can do is move. That was difficult to write by the way as I am a fanatical dog lover and my instinct would be to call animal control but sometimes practical matters overrule emotions

Thanks friends, both good advice. I’m treading carefully, and will be moving this spring. At least she said it’s ok if my daughters and I play with her, but it’s really not fun to play with a dog that is chained up like a criminal.

    Re: Chaining dogs 24/7!

I feel your pain. I have a neighbor near me that has a black lab that has been on an 8 foot chain tied to a small dog house for the past 6 years that I know of. His dog house sits in the direct sun light - no shade in the summer. He has never been off that chain that I have witnessed. Very upsetting. I go by this house every day to go to work and then again on the way home and I complain to myself every time. Why in the world would you have a dog to leave it live outside with no company and certainly no comforts for its entire life.

They do feed it and water it because I have watched for signs of that but unfortunately, our laws consider that acceptable care. We are currently experiencing below zero temps all day and night here in Michigan and I have trouble sleeping because I am concerned about that poor dog laying out there in his cold dog house.

I did see that they put hay bales around his dog house - wow, that was big of them. I'm sorry but this sort of stuff really gets my dander up.

Update. The cold snap has left us with sub-freezing days and nights and high wind chill. I am so upset at this point, I have a hard time not confronting my landlord about the dog abuse. Tonight, I had a few drinks and got the courage up, I brought an old comforter blanket and came to the dog at 11:00 pm, in bitter cold wind, and wrapped her with it while she was in her little plastic pen. She immediately came out and started licking me and snuggling me, desperate for warmth and mammal contact. I had to resist and walk away, I put the comforter in her pathetic little plastic dog house, and walked away. I was very tempted to take her off the chain into my home, and I am seriously contemplating going all "Robin Hood" and rescuing this dog.

Anyway, I am glad she has a blanket tonight. If her owner finds the blanket, o well, maybe it will show her what a pathetic, cruel piece of garbage she is for neglecting her dog.

    Re: Chaining dogs 24/7!

It makes me so mad. Even for a husky...that is way to cold. Putting hay inside and around the dog house would be wonderful. But I suppose that may cause her daughter "anxiety" 🤬
