What kind of things do you feed them ??

Thanks Z. The babies get started on cut xs f/t pink mice mixed with f/t Sally's silverside fish cut and sliced appropriately. I also give them cut up live nightcrawlers dusted with multivitamins. Most of the adults take f/t rat pinks, hairless hopper mice, and Sally's silversides. Also they get fresh market fish like ocean perch and croaker.

Mine used to love eating little earth worms as an occasional meal / treat ..

I had one out on the lounge carpet and it made a bee-line for the plate of meaty dog food in the corner of the room . It had a few decent sized mouthfuls... I did some research afterwards and saw that some breeders of Garter snakes did actually include dog food into their diets !!

Presumably because it's cheap and convenient??

Wow, I couldn't feed my garters canned dog food at all. They need a more natural diet over the processed stuff. They get f/t frog legs cut up as a treat at my place. Here's the male Oregon red spotted. He is much more defensive than the female.

ok i've overlooked Garters. i didn't realize that there are so many beautiful looking species/sub-species. these and the Thamnophis sirtalis infernalis that John posted are so cool.

Thanks Ax, so many overlook them. They just aren't your backyard reptile. So many morphs and naturally occurring individuals in the Thamnophis genus are amazing.
