First time feeding my BP a rat!

So I just fed my BP Pylox a rat for the first time on Sunday and he took it like a champ (Probably because I missed his meal on Saturday )! Anyways, just wanted to ask if anything significant will happen, since he usually eats large mice. Also, I heard hat rats are addictive for snakes, is this true?

Grats. Usually when you switch to rats, you will see the snake take off in growth for a bit, then they level out again.

As for rats being addictive to snakes, ive never heard that. Food is addictive to snakes be it rats, mice, rabbits, quails, chicks or guinea pigs. All of my snakes would eat 24/7 if i gave them the chance. Heck my Salmon boy struck the cage door the day after he got his adult mouse and tracked me like a champ as i was spot cleaning my dumerils cage below his. A healthy snake will always be hungry, doesnt mean it should eat all the time. Just like human kids love candy, doesnt mean they should eat it 24/7 lol.

What I mean by "addictive" is I've heard some people say after feeding their snakes rats, they rarely want mice after that, only rats. Is this true? (don't mean to challenge your knowledge, just want to get the most facts for future reference.)

Some owners of ball pythons have witnessed their BP's prefering mice over rats. Other owners like you are able to switch their's to rats. It isn't an addictive thing for a BP as far as eating rats. It is more the BP identifying the rat as food. All BP's have their own "precerences" when it comes to food. Some don't care what is fed to them while others are fickle to the point of size, color, and a single type of prey. Congrats on the change over to a more convenient food source for your BP.

This video has nothing to do with reptiles, however, if you go to the 1:25 mark, you can see what happens to a rat's body when being consumed by a snake. I found it informative. If you are compelled to watch the entire video... TRIGGER WARNING...

That's a very interesting video. It makes me want to take extra care to ensure that the rat is FULLY thawed before I feed it to one of my snakes. A fully thawed rat is an easily squeezable rat. And an easily squeezable rat is an easily eatable rat. :-)

Actually it is the opposite, most people find some BP's like to eat mice more, which is why people often post about having a hard time switching to rats.

African Soft Fur Rats (ASF's) are the ones that are said to be addictive.

I've heard that said about 'multis' as well unless they're the same thing ?
