    Which Herpstat?

Hey guys! I've been lurking on the forums for a little bit and I'm starting to accumulate the supplies I need to set up an Animal Plastics enclosure for my ball python (he's currently in a vivarium). I'm planning on using a RHP from Pro Products for my sole heat source, so the Herpstat 1 should work for my needs. But I'm wondering, should I go ahead and get a Herpstat 2 in case I decide I need to add in a second heat source (like a UTH of some sort)?

    Thanks!

For peace of mind I'd personally go for the herpstat 2. Then if you do need two heat sources ( or decide to get another snake) you've already got another channel ready to go. Also cheaper than getting two herpstat 1, added bonus... spyder robotics is having a sale on herpstats through December 1! 10% off

Well Jacob beat me to the answer lol. They are on sale now like he said. And personally if you think you are going to get more snakes, then i would almost just spring for a Herpstat 4. But otherwise, i would go for a Herpstat 2 over a 1. The cost isnt that much more and it will give you options if you need it. Or you can go all out like i did and get a Herpstat 6 which are awesome . They are huge though, like the size of a laptop haha.

They also have a new economical line the ez 1 and ez2 you might want to look at if the herpstat 2 is too much. It doesn't have a digital display so that might not be what you want but it is much cheaper and still a proportional thermostat.

With the Herpstat 2 you can also get their humidity probe (even though it's like $55).

Do you know if the economical line Herpstats are identical to the regular ones with the one exception being the digital display? Or are there other differences?

    Thanks!

Useful thread. I was uncertain myself with so many thermostats on the market, but after reading this thread I am going to be upgrading to the Herpstat 2 soon,

Sorry I really don't. They are brand new and I just noticed them myself. Looking over the manual they look to have the basic functionality but you can't obviously set a precise setting as it is just a dial. I am not sure of some other features but it says it can do pulse or dimming and has safety alarms but that seems about it. I think it just flashes a different LED color depending on the range the temp is at.

I am thinking of maybe getting one for my rosy boa if the dimmer and jumpstart don't do the trick.

Just make sure the economical ones have the safeties on them. I know Herpstat basics lack a couple of the safeties of the Herpstat 1 and up. And the whole reason to buy them is for the peace of mind on security, otherwise just get something like a Jumpstart, which i do use for quarantines

I'm hoping that Spyder Robotics chimes in here, as I would also like to know the fundamental difference between the Herpstat EZ2, and the Herpstat 2, besides the analog controller and the $50 discount! The Herpstat EZ2 sounds appealing, as I am on a tight budget.
