Honestly didn't notice that until you pointed it out, haha!
When these snakes were emerging from brumation, they all huddled together, creating a giant pile of mating and warmth, which attracted the slower males. The late males then excreted hormones that made the other snakes believe they were females, so the already warmed up male snakes rushed over to the cold males and rubbed all over to get them warm as well. I'm sure there was more than just rubbing, but still. Pretty dang clever.
Just remembered watching this series called "Inside Nature's Giants"... which might not be up your alley, but they did dissect a big snake (can't remember what), a lion, and a whale over the course of the series.

I was going to mention it lol. I was watching that for the first time since I was really little and realized that the scene where the baby anacondas are falling out of the trees the snakes are actually Red Tail Boas! There might have been other species but the Red Tails were most prominent.

I watched a documentary call "TITANABOA" about the largest known pre-historic serpent ever discovered. It dwarfed the modern green anaconda, much, much bigger, and they suspect it was largely a swimmer like the anacondas.

watch "titanoboa" is a really cool documentary about part of a snake skeleton they found. Titanoboa was the largest snake ever to exist...... It was a good documentary and they make a life sized replica at the end.... really cool!

great recommendation, I saw it last week and it did not disappoint. I don't know how old you guys are but I wish I could still watch shows like O'Shea big adventure. Sadly those type of herp shows are replaced by "reality" tv.
