Spurs?
My ball python, who I've assumed is male but haven't had probed, just showed his spurs for the first time. Does this mean something? Or is it just something they do sometimes?

The spurs are always visible on my 3 BPs. Dunno what you mean by just showed them?

The spurs are always visible on the snake. They can be small or just tucked into the snakes body/blending in, but they are always there. Spurs are also not a dependable way to determine gender. Get it probed or popped.

Re: Spurs?
spurs can get larger after a shed. it's simply a little dead skin left over.

Re: Spurs?
What I mean by just showed is that I've never seen them before. He seemed to lift the skin a little (I don't know how to describe it), which is was caught my attention in the first place.

not sure if this photobucket pic will show... but is this what you saw?
The little yellow spike on the side of the vent?
If so then yes, spur!
I have some that are quite obvious and some where you can barely see it. But I've never had the spur change or hide then show, they are usually just there.
If it was something else, can you describe what you saw?

Re: Spurs?
Spurs really aren't a reliable guide to sexing a snake - this, for example, is a proven female.
