They favor the cold side when they are.. well, hot lol.
Also females will spend a lot of time on the cold side and/or wrapped around a water dish when they feel breeding time is approaching

Yes, and it can vary depending on status/season/enclosure changes. Mine was invariably on cool until his new heavy hides, and now is not leaving the warm side. Might be shedding but even with that factor, this is "atypical" for him.

Can confirm 100% Tapioca always goes to his cool hide after he eats EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
I have no idea why and he DOES use his warm hides and hot spot! Just not after feeding day. Once he was actually IN his warm hide when I fed him. He dragged and ate his rat IN the warm hide but then 2 hours later I found him in his cool hide! This boy is on a mission. Something possesses him to be a cool dude.

Re: Hot side favoritism?
Bonnie prefers cool side. Monty sits on the hot side. Clyde likes to chill out behind the plants in the middle.

Re: Hot side favoritism?
Dean seems to prefer the hot side
Although he used to have a log hide and even when I switched it to the other side he would only use that hide so I took it out and gave him identical ones

My female royals Godzilla and Flame never move, they seem content right in one spot, hot or warm, doesn't seem to matter, they are so easy! The males are all rogues, they like it hot, then they like it cold, they roam around, they want to escape sometimes, male ball pythons overall seem more of a pain than females, from a keeper's POV.
When it comes to ball pythons, Females seem programmed to sit still, eat often and sit still some more.
Males seem programmed to be the same, except the randomly get super-horny and roam around and act weird, did I mention randomly?
