    Juvenile retic tub to cage?

Getting a juvenile dwarf retic soon. I'll be housing he or she in a 28qt sterlite tub untill it grows out of it . My question is a 6ftx2ft by 16 in tall cage too big to go it too directly from the 28qt tub? I plan to have hide boxes on both ends... I'm guessing it will be over 3 1/2 feet when it out grows the tub?

I would start him off in the 6 foot cage and not bother with a tub. Retics grow like weeds. My SD went from 2 feet to 7 feet in about 8 months or so. And i would go bigger on that cage. I use AP T25s for my SD retic and big boas. They are 72x30x18 and i order it with a shelf too as they love to sit on them. Here's an old pic of Caesar chilling on his shelf lol. He was close to 7 feet there.

So a big cage won't freak it out? We're talking about a snake that is only a couple feet in length..

The parents are under 12 ft. The breeder said a 6 ft cage would be fine...

Re: Juvenile retic tub to cage?

Damn. I wish I would have consulted here. I have a 6 month old 0.1 mainland. I was told she was too small for my 60x30x18 so she's currently in a 28 qt. tub that is INSIDE the 60x30x18 lol.

Maybe I will be eliminating the tub then.

Just give him hides. They aren't BPs. Just throw in a couple hides, maybe a couple PVC pipes or the corrugated drain pipes. That will give him hides as well as stuff to push around and play on.

Caesar's dad was 6' and mom was 8-9'. Yet Caesar is 7' at 17 months old. No one can give you an etched in stone size. They can give you a guesstimate but that's it.

And a 6' cage should be fine. I was more commenting on the width of 2' and height of 16". The minimum I would do would be 18" for a 6'+ snake. Seems 18" is the sweet spot for easy heating but enough headroom to get in easily and clean the cage. As for depth, I would do more than 2'. I prefer to give them stretching room. I wish AP did a full 3' on their T25s but 30" is close enough and with the shelf, it actually equates to 40".

Also 2' wide cages can be difficult to fit large hides into when the snake gets big. I use jumbo RBI hides and in a 4x2 cage, they were really tight. In the 30" deep cages, plenty of room even with a 10" shelf. Here is a pic of them. This is an old pic. I have added 2 hides to each snake now as they like to sit on them as well lol.
