Day 48, movement but egg is rotting?

So I noticed the 3 eggs in this clutch were starting to dimple last week, but one was more severe than the rest. Decided to pull the tub and check them out. Noticed that the one that was collapsing faster has what appears to be rot on its shell. It was the point facing the back of the incubator so I never noticed until today. The other 2 look normal.

It's day 48 of incubation (eggs may be older, I didn't notice them in the tub immediately so they could be up to 52 days old). I candled the eggs and saw strong veins and movement in each. Is there anything special I need to do for the egg with rot? Is there a chance it may not make it to hatching?

Re: Day 48, movement but egg is rotting?

Sorry to see this. Was the egg resting up against the side of the egg tub? Do you think it was a moisture issue like condensation dripping onto the egg? What was the pairing? Are the temps and humidity stable and have you had any fluctuations in your temps (spikes, low temp)? Does the egg smell bad? I would consider putting the eggs on a light diffuser if you haven't already and keep an eye on any progression of the discoloration/ excessive dimpling. Good luck.

Temp is at 88, no fluctuations that I've noticed. I have them on light diffusers away from water (substrateless) and sides but I did notice condensation on the bottom of the egg where the rot looked worst. Not sure how the water was traveling up the diffusers? Eggs don't have a rotten smell to them.

Pairing was Albino Clown to Pied het Clown. Lost 2 eggs in the beginning of incubation (either they weren't fertile or the change from tub to incubator was too much) so I'm really hoping I don't lose any of these. I've hatched one clutch in this incubator already with the same set up.

When I candled it I saw quite a bit of movement, so I have no doubt that it is alive at this point in time. Is there any chance that this baby might survive? Would it be best to leave it alone or should I cut and monitor?

Also, since I don't use substrate I have the eggs sitting on light diffusers that are stacked 2 deep to give it extra distance from the water. So not sure how water ended up on the bottom of the egg unless the rotted area is allowing moisture out of the egg?

    Hi,

You could try dusting it with mysil anti-fungal foot powder. that may stop the spread a little - hopefully long enough for the egg to hatch.

I put some Tinactin Antifungal powder on it, the store did not have Mysil and so I researched what other brand would be safe to use. Decided to take some more pictures since I had the egg out. Hopefully this will give a better idea on what is going on and if there is anything else I can/should do at this point.

Wow, the appearance of the egg is very suspicious but you have to let it play out. I want to hopeful and feel the egg should get every possible chance to hatch. The condensation on the egg itself may be due to the biochemical changes internally. I think its a good thing there is no foul odor or greenish discoloration.

Yeah I got a good sniff of both ends. Good end had no smell (other than typical egg smell) and the bad end had an odor, but it's hard to describe. It wasn't rotten/offensive, but it was definitely different. Do you think it would be wise to cut at day 53? I cut an egg at day 45 from the last clutch because it was so caved in I thought the baby had passed. Well it crawled out a couple days later and has been eating and growing just fine. I'm worried that whatever is going on might affect the yolk and end up causing complications for the baby. It's hard to really see in the pic, but when I candle the bad end, that spot that doesn't really show anything almost looks like a pocket of air. Like there may be some gas building up. Would it be okay if I poked a small hole there to see if it's that's the case?

Well the other 2 eggs pipped last night so I cut all 3. The moldy egg seemed off, didn't look like it was as far along as the other 2. I left it be for a day, but it has definitely passed by this evening :/ pulled it out and there was still a large amount of yolk left. I dunno exactly what happened or why, but I feel pretty sick about it.

Here is a link to the post showing pictures of the 2 that made it.

Ill post a pic below of the baby that passed if anyone with more experience can get any clues from it. It hardly looks like it absorbed any yolk, but it looked like it was fully developed.

Here is a pic of the baby that passed. This is meant to be for discussion on possible reasons for it's passing. Maybe the answers will help someone in the future.
