About a week ago, I asked my dad to feed my 4 year old ball python (she eats live-fed pup rats, definitely switching her to frozen now), and when I got home, I noticed that the scales on the very tip of her tail (The last few millimeters) looked as though they had been ripped back, and I could see her pink skin underneath. She was holding it off the ground like it hurt, and that got me worried. I talked to my friends that also own ball pythons, and they all said to watch the wound after cleaning it/putting a healing solution on it. Since then, I've kept her habitat clean and used neosporin on the wound (It's the only thing I have handy for this sort in incident) to make sure her wound heals. But just last night I noticed that the wound has turned blood red instead of pale pink, and the skin around it seems to be peeling a little bit. She's still holding it weird, and that has got me even more worried. I'm trying to convince my dad to let me take her to the vet for help, but until then, I'm on my own trying to take care of her. This is my first ball python, and I'm not sure what to do in this situation.
What can I do to help her heal, and how can I tell if her wound is already infected? And on a related note, how do I help her get better if the wound is already infected?
