Gentlest prey take down ever lol
Hi there! 1st time poster here.
As my user name would suggest,
I have two Ball pythons a 3 y/o male and a 9 y/o female....and also a 6 month old female
BRB. This is regarding my BRB
Never have I ever seen a snake NOT strike and coil around a prey item... Be it live or thawed...until this evening...
She sniffed at the thawed hopper, nudged it a few times, and then just gently opened her mouth over it and begin to work on it. No strike..no coil. Nothin.
Has anyone every had a snake do this? LoL I found it very odd especially since BRB are known to be pretty voracious when it comes to feeding time. ..This is her 1st feeding with me since getting her a week ago.

My ball python used to do that! She did it for a few weeks but now she is vicious on feeding day! As soon as she smells the rat, she starts coming up to the top of the cage. Sometimes she will strike at the heat lamp or the glass. I'm honestly shocked that she hasn't bit me on accident!

My ball python Meeko does that a lot too XD He either just eats it without striking or anything or goes at it super fast and aggressively, this last time he actually hit the prey so hard in the side it split it open a little!
I think it's cute when he just noms down on it without the show But he's always been real quirky with his food. Even when he strikes and coils he likes to uncoil then grab the mouse by its tail and flip in over a few times before he sniffs it over again and starts to eat. He's a weird one XD

One of my Sumatrans used to do that when I was struggling to get her switched over to frozen/thawed. She stopped doing it when I started using a heat gun to warm up my rats before feeding. Now she is a killer on feeding day!

My Children's python frequently eats that way; fortunately, because to get her to eat reliably I hand-feed her.

My hognose eats pretty gently too, when he takes from the tongs at least. Super cute when he does.
