Kenyan Sand Boas

Everyone knows about my saga for a new scaly friend.I talked to Jason form Jason's Jungle and he got me interested in buying a pair of Kenyan sand boas,one anery and one 100% het for anery.The het's mother is Big Momma,the third? biggest KSB in the world and was only a few shy of having the most babies in a clutch.I have already read about them and looked up their care,etc.I know they like to burrow,but would it hurt if i kept them on newspaper for a week or two?

Any good caresheets would be appreciated.

I don't think it would be a good idea. I've heard of impaction with these guys being kept on sand as well, btw. Get some Sani Chip aspen, it'll work out great and they can still burrow around in it.

Btw, you won't see them very ofen at all.

I was originally going to put them on aspen after the newspaper,but I guess I'll just start with aspen from the beginning

I've read up on them quite a bit. They are relatively easy to care for. Most of the caresheets I read said 90 for the warm end and upper 70's cool end. You can use sand(obviously, LoL), aspen, shredded newspaper, etc. They really do love to burrow and will spend the majority of their time under the bedding with just their nose or head sticking out. It would be best to use a particulate substrate so they can burrow, and I don't think that newspaper, even though it may only be a week or two, is the best option. You want them to feel secure when they are settling in.


You could probably keep a male in a 10-gallon for the rest of his life, or upsize him to a 20-long. Females may need a bit more room. From what I've read, they grow fairly slow.

Sand boas rock. I keep mine on bed-a-beast. They love it and it's cheap. Jason is who I got my sand boas from, and he's very nice to work with.

A male is going to be fine in a 10 gallon it's whole life, and a female a 20.
