Best Lizards for an 11 year old?

Hey guys, I have a step-brother who's 11 years old and he wants a lizard. I was wondering if any suggestions for a beginner? We're going to an expo in October and we may pick up a pet for him there.

Get a leopard gecko. Cheap, easy, and hardy. Perfect first reptile/lizard for anyone over 8 yrs old or so. I got my first one when I was 7.

That's a great idea! My step-brother was actually thinking a leopard gecko, I was just asking here in order to make sure they were suitable for someone his age, or if there were any other suggestions.

The next on I'd suggest would be a bearded dragon. They are slightly more advanced and have a little harder diet to maintain.

When i was that age, i had green anoles and whatever lizards i used to catch out in the woods when i went 'huntin'. A leopard gecko would be neat. A lot of that kind of stuff was more 'exotic' when i was a kid....god i feel old lol.

I would suggest a crested gecko. No need for any lighting or heat. I bought one for my son and he's doing great.

I got my first lizard when I was ten. It was a red sided plated lizard. Very hardy fun to watch ,friendly. And back then not overly expensive. Now that being said they cost more than a leo but not so much as some of the fancy ones.
Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.

Just realize that any animal you give a kid will ultimately be your animal. An 11 year old will have no means to buy food or any other husbandry need the animal may have, so I would suggest getting something that both of you are interested in since part if not all of the responsibility will be on you.

This is very true and it's something to be very aware about. My son is 5 and after taking him to reptile expos and him showing interest in my snakes I decided to get a gecko for him. He wanted a reptile but I didn't want to get him a snake. He chose a gecko (because he likes the PJ masks character Gekko). I knew that although it's "his" until he's old enough to actually care for him by himself, I would primarily care for him. Because of this, I chose a crested gecko, they're very simple to care for. As I said, no special light and does great in room temperature. Feed him gecko fruit mix (no need for insects).

I'd say a gecko there quite cute or if your wanting something that looks a bit more of a predator then a bearded dragon there just as tame and a great looking lizard in my opinion I've never had one but my mate has and it was great for handling and not as fast as a gecko
