Yawning
My SSTP Ares had his second shedding two days ago since I have him. It again was a 100 % perfect shedding. He eats like a weed and is doing fine. Yesterday at 8 pm he sticked out his head and about 3 inch of his body, looked around an slithered backwards back into his hide. Just his head and 2 inch of his neck stayed outside. He was resting it on the ground and yawned with his mouth wide open. Normally I just see this after eating to readjust his jaws and it normally lasts just 2 seconds. This time ist was a real wide open mouth and it lasted for about 5 seconds. He then closed his mouth and rested his head and neck on the ground afterwards, looking at me. He did not look upwards or stargazing. There was no mucus, or bubbles in his mouth. He was not wheezing or heavy breathing. Just a big yawn?

Re: Yawning
I've had similar experiences and did some research back then. I'm no expert but from what I've found, the exact reason for such yawning didn't seem to be fully understood. Maybe he just felt like doing so? Anyway, if there were no other symptoms, I'd say it's just fine.

Just a big yawn. Snakes yawn too. I'm still on the hunt for a good yawn picture of one of my snakes. I never seem to have the camera ready when they do yawn though.

Thanks guys. I watched him since then and he did not yawn again. It seems it was only his get up/wake up yawning :-)
