2018 Breeding Season Thread

I separated my pairs last Friday and accidently separated two pairs that were locked, not good. They were all balled up and I couldn't tell if they were locked or not. I won't do that again, I'm making sure I can see a tail before I remove the male!

I hope they are alright and you get some nice babies.

Your enchi-ghost and your leopard-pinstripe are really cool combos. I like how the genes interact on both of those breeders.

As Chris knows I am just starting out with BP's, and 2018 will be my first attempt at breeding.

Glad to be of help. Markus Jayne has a great breeding pictorial you can find out there with a simple search. The 0.1 Enchi Hypo in this thread just went off feed so I suspect she will ovulate here in the next 6 to 8 weeks. Stay tuned.

She finished her pre-lay shed today. As you can see she has darkened back up a bit since she is no longer glowing.

She’s still looking very pretty even though she lost the glow. She reminds me of my fire mojave who I believe is my farthest along but no ovy witnessed yet so hard to say for sure.

Thank you. Hang in there and things will happen. This hobby is not for those who require immediate gratification, or any gratification for that matter. From females that won't stay on feed and get to size, or pairings that fail to produce a clutch, or clutches that fail to produce a desired combo, to a combo that ends up being the wrong gender, this hobby is littered with pitfalls. That's why when something happens exactly as hoped, it's overwhelmingly satisfying. Enjoy the journey!

I have a Vanilla girl that is up to about 2000 grams and could be bred. The problem is I am on the fence with which way to go. My choice is between my 1.0 Pied Ghost and my 1.0 Blade Clown. The Blade Clown is just over a year old, at almost 1000 grams, still eating, but has never been bred. The Pied Ghost has locked several times with a 0.1 YB this year but has gone off feed about three weeks ago. I think either would be interesting long term, but neither will be very exciting in this round since they are both recessives. Feel free to share your thoughts.

I personally chose to go the clown route with my vanilla girl but I did not have a pied ghost to choose from lol. I feel you on the lack of excitement this round but that’s recessive for you. Either choice will have some cool outcomes long term but if I were you, I’d use the pied ghost only because it will give you more options for future projects.

I took rufretic's advice and paired my 1.0 Pied Ghost with my 0.1 Vanilla. They locked immediately. Stay tuned.
