Shipping questions. Brand new to shipping.

I'm brand new to shipping. Never shipped before. I'm trying to make sure I'm prepared before I offer to ship one of my ball pythons.
With that in mind. I've done a lot of research. Right now I'm torn between using Ship Your Reptiles and Reptile Express.

Also I have an issue.
I live in Las Vegas Nevada. It's HOT I checked the whether there are no "cool" days.
SYR has a high of 100. Right now for the week the lowest, of the high temps, is 104.
What do I do?
I know I'm supposed to wait. What's the chance of something horrible happening? Especially when it's shipped overnight.
I'm sure I'll think of other questions later, but for now that's all.

As for temps. Do not ship if it's over 90. The animal is worth the wait to make sure it's safe

I know they recommend shipping to a FedEx ship center if it's between 92-100. Is that ok to do? Occasionally we have days where the high is 97-100. Just not very often. I just don't know how impatient people will get if they don't get their snake asap.

Well according to FedEx the shipping centers are all climate controlled. If this is true idk. Personally I don't ship anything anywhere over 90 and I have never had a customer complain over shipping because of weather. Most would rather wait and get a live animal

Shipping from the southwest in the summer months can be extra challenging.

Going by our SYR Shipping Standards and temperature guidelines, linked here, you can ship up to 100F for a daytime high. When origin temps are 92F-100F for a daytime high, we require a late day drop off directly at the FedEx facility (no driver pickup), and if destination temps are 92F-100F, we require the shipment to be held at the FedEx facility for pickup. This puts the package available for pickup first thing in the morning, and avoids it going out on the delivery truck for delivery.

Above 100F, we recommend you do not ship.

That can be tough to work with if you are in Phoenix, or Vegas, for sure. But everyone in those areas is fighting the same heat restriction, so it isn't that unusual, or unheard of. Being in that region, it is just something you have to work with.

As suggested, try and find a shipping day at 100F or below. That might delay your ship day by weeks, or even a month. But it is best for the reptile. The absolute worst result would be to get pressured into shipping by a recipient/customer/peer and then have the animal arrive DOA. If the recipient pressures you to ship when it is too hot, and the animal arrives DOA or with a heat related neurological problem, very often they are STILL super upset with you and want to hold you responsible. Kind of a no-win situation there.

Most recipients are understanding of the heat/weather limitations, and they are willing to wait for a safe window. Beware the recipient that isn't willing to wait, as that is likely the guy that is going to throw a fit when it goes poorly.

That said, there are lots of reptile breeders in the southwest that deal with high temps every season. They ship with confidence in extreme weather (but not when it is 115F out!). Extra insulation is your friend in extreme temps, either hot or cold. Doubling up insulation, or making a custom box with 1.5" insulation from Home Depot, custom cut to fit, works great on the temperature extremes. That can give you more confidence in live arrival.

Some of those extreme weather breeders (super hot summer regions, or extra cold winter regions) may have a TOS that simply says "no shipping during XXXX months". That is acceptable, and responsible.

Phase 22 packs can help in extreme temp situations as well. For high temp shipments, I think they work better, and last longer, than cold/ice packs. A 12x9x6 box, or 15x11x7 box, will also give you more temp stability than the smaller 7x7x6 box.

As a first time shipper, you don't really have 200 shipments of experience to fall back on. Small subtle tricks and tips might be harder to execute.

As a first time shipper, your BEST BET is to wait for a day that is 100F or under. Do the late day FedEx facility drop off. You want to give yourself the best chance of success.
