I second that! I only use Herpstats aka Spyder Robotics.

    Buy cheap.....get cheap.

A tstat is the most important thing you can buy.

Look around and you'll find some gently used Herpstats for sale.

I have four and love them.

Hydrofarm is the absolute cheapest thermostat I will even mention. It's just a on/off thermostat that doesn't have the reliability track record of herpstat or helix. But it is better than nothing.

    Re: Uth termostats

Thank you , I can't afford to drop like 400 at once , I just looked and the hydrofarm is one Ive been looking at in a good price range for me . I have a child and multiple pets so its hard to drop a lot of money on one thing at once , now something like a vet visit is different but when it comes to a supply for one of them id rather find a cheaper and reliable option

I have a VE-200 and love it! I used to have an on/off Ranco, but much prefer the VE.

Something I learned the hard way - you'll spend more money in the long run by buying a cheaper thermostat that if you just cough up the $100 up front. If you can, I recommend a paypal credit account. Anything over $100 and they'll let you go interest free for six months. $100 paid over six months is extremely affordable and how I've made a lot of my expensive purchases for my animals.
