    Euthanize Humanely

After looking at another thread where the OP received some F/T that looked like there were less than humanely euthanized, I thought I would just put out there that its cheap to humanely fresh kill your feeders...

The entire setup cost less than 20.00.

I purchased this glass jar with a metal lid from Walmart for 4.92(Kitchen).
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/DNP-2QT-C...-Teal/51755721

I purchased a 2 pack of valve stems from the auto department for 2.03.
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Slime-Val...1-1-4/45791096

I then bought a CO2 tire inflator from the bike section for 11.38.
It comes with a 16g but it fits a 12g flush. The 16g is better for tires but hard to source.
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Slime-CO2...lator/49455294

    Steps are simple.
    1. Drill a hole slightly smaller than the valve stem "collar" in the lid and through whatever sealing material. Mine was waxy coated paper.
    2. Insert the valve stem through hole.

The CO2 inflator has a trigger so you can slowly put them to sleep and then let them pass and feed fresh killed HUMANELY. I understand that if you have 200 snakes this could be expensive but if do it properly, it shouldn't be that much.

So I only euthanize 2-3 at a time because of feed schedule. So 1 12g cartridge with do 2-3 sessions, possibly more or less if you use different sized chambers . A 25ct of CO2 is 13 dollars. So about 50 cents a cartridge or .25 cents a session. You can put quite a few per session because you are removing oxygen so it doesn't affect the outcome.

    Nice write up Elliot.

There has been similar threads in the past, but those dealt with larger containers, tanks, and using valves.

Yours appears to more simplified and less costly as well.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Can't wait in 10 years to read a forum post that reads "How to Humanely Kill Snake Mites". Shake my freaking head, it's a rat.

Thankfully everyone has their own opinion but would you feed these to your snake?

You do what you want but there is something to be said when you treat all of the animals you have respectfully. I feed my rats high quality food as well.. Why would I feed them garbage food that then goes in my snake...

Momokahn, that is your opinion. Some people don't care how you kill snakes, but you probably want it done as quickly and painlessly as possible, because you care about them. Some people keep rats as pets, they care about them and see them as more than just a food source. To be honest, even if it is just a food source, does a living animal not deserve to be killed painlessly and quickly? Surely you can agree with that, why would you want an animal to suffer any pain in death?

I assume everyone on here has a snake, so you're killing a rat one way or another - either you let the snake do it, you do it, or you've paid someone else to do it.

    Re: Euthanize Humanely

There is no reason why a rat should have to suffer before it is fed off. It is a living breathing creature and deserves respect. So saying it's just a rat is a bit ignorant. I have had rats as pets before. They are awesome pets. A rat deserves to die humanely no matter what.
