If you attach it to the heat source on the outside, where it can't be moved, then you can adjust the tstat until you have the temps you require on the inside.
So if I put the probe on the non-stick side of the heat pad it should still function the same?

Because if it is inside it can be cool down (water dish being tipped over, urine, probe being dislodge by the animal), which would all contribute to the temperature shooting up to dangerous ranges and lead to burn.

Yep the UTH is the same temp on both sides.

Re: Where to put thermostat probe

    Deborah,

I recently bought a temperature control device for my ball python's terrarium. I have it tucked under her warm hide. Are you saying that I should tape it to the outside of the terrarium, on the under tank heater--between the bottom of the terrarium and whatever surface the tank is sitting on? Thank you.

    Deborah,

I recently purchased a temperature-control thermometer for my ball python's terrarium. Currently, I have it placed inside the warm hide. Are you saying that I should have it tapped to the outside of the terrarium, on the under tank heater? Between the bottom of the tank and the surface on which it is sitting? That will measure the same temperature as on top of the substrate, where my ball python is? Thank you.

P.S. If you saw a post from me with this same question, it's because I couldn't figure out how to delete that post...very new to this website and still trying to figure it out.

    Yes.
1 It should not be inside the enclosure. Too many variables that can cause a false reading.
2 You should be monitoring the hottest surface your animal can touch. This would be under the substrate as they can and will burrow.
