    Cool New dude

    Hello.

Just purchased my first bp about six weeks ago. Her name is Molly Python, she's a year old, about four feet long, and I haven't weighed her yet.

She was quite neglected when I got her. The previous owner wasn't using a thermostat, on a uth that was too small, with a shoebox as a hide (haven't replaced that ugly thing yet, she seems to like it) with no thermometers or hygrometer. He was giving her three live mice every two weeks, and I'm about to switch her to one live rat every week, starting tomorrow.

I've found a lot of great info on this site, you have all been quite helpful. Thought I'd join in the fun and make an account.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on your new snake. You seem to be well on your way to fixing things for that snake and providing her a good, healthy home. My only thought is the hide. Is it a cardboard shoe box? If so, be careful, cardboard can hold onto bacteria and can develop mold if it sucks up any humidity from the enclosure.

Yes, it is cardboard, I just read that earlier today about the mold/bacteria issues. I just gave her enclosure a good cleaning and replaced the old substrate with fresh cypress mulch. I examined and sniffed the hide and it doesn't seem to be funky at all.

Either way, I'm going to get a couple litter pan hides from Wal-Mart and will likely spray them with the stone spray for looks. She only has one hide right now. I need to get one on the cool side of the cage.
