    rat ?

    hello all.

so today i went to my rat supplier to feed by 185g BP. since it isnt my normal feeding day (that was yesterday) and not the normal time i go to the store for the feeder my selection of feeder was very different than normal in that they did not have any fuzzies in stock. the gentleman informed me that based on the size of my beep that it could take, what he called, a crawler rat. it didnt seem to big by my eyes so i gave it a shot and sure enough my reliable noodle gobbled it up no problem.

now for my question. . . what is the equivalent of a "crawler"? . . . a pup? weaned? has anyone heard this term? any help would be awesome.

A crawler is a small rat fuzzy crawling around (eyes not open) at 185 grams your BP can take a rat pup.

I like to target 10% of their body weight, and a large mouse is 35 grams, so a baby rat about half the size of an adult mouse would be perfect (about 18 grams). I like to feed small snakes like that one rodent twice a week until they get some size on them. I actually always weight my rats and mice now and try to give it to one of my snakes that's closest to 10% without going over. Sometimes I feed twice a week, sometimes once a week, depending on how many rats are filling up the rack. With my mice sometimes I'll feed up to four baby mice per snake (king snakes) just to use them up if I have an overpopulation problem LOL. When I first started breeding rats I had times where I had to go 2 weeks between feedings because I didn't have enough, well I never have that problem now HA!

Probably a pup then. Weans look basically like adult rats, just smaller.
